Poetry · The Body · Bangla
The body's own language, its own memory.
At a Glance
Across 52 poems, the body loves. Waits. Carries memories. And sometimes, it returns to the earth.
About the Book
In Dehoposhra, the body is more than just the body. It holds love. Desire. Pain. Time too.
Sometimes the body rises like a new moon. Sometimes time writes its diary on the skin. Sometimes the body becomes a chest where memories are stored. And sometimes, even within one’s own body, the presence of someone else can be felt.
Love here is never far from the body. Fingers, skin, kisses, blood, touch—they return again and again. Alongside them are distance. Waiting. Not having. Sometimes pain clings to the body like earth.
The body also has an intimate relationship with the earth. Sometimes it becomes a field for cultivation. And in the end, it returns to the earth.
God enters here too. So does death. So does being alive. The question remains—how much can this body love, how much can it lose, and how much can it remember?
Dehoposhra is poetry in the body’s own language.
Author's Note
Seven years ago when I published Shmoshanbrikkho I realised I had improved but not quiet. I still wasn't writing the kind of poems I was thinking of or the kind of ideas I had.
For the last seven years I have tried grip my poetic language and tone. In this time I have experimented heavily. At last in 2024 I put together this manuscript. Here is 52 poems. Most of them written recently.
While writing these poems, I kept returning to the body. At some point, I began to feel that we don't carry the body with us. It's the body that carries us. It loves. It hungers. It remembers, wounds. It carries our age.
Many memories are tied to the body too. Some relationships have grown distant. Some times never return. Yet this body remembers something of each of them.
This book is not about the body being beautiful or ugly rather it's about the body that carries love, pain, desire, time and death. The body sits with its wares spread out before it. Even I don't know everything it holds.
Sometimes I feel I didn't write these poems. My fingers did—my body.
